Dear Families,
Our annual Fun Run was held at school today with students from Prep – Year Six participating. The Fun Run gives all students a chance to challenge themselves and to try their best on a course that winds its way through our school grounds. Participation is the priority, and it was great to see so many students stepping out today. Thank you to Mr Daft for organising this event and to our School Association for organising a BBQ fundraiser.
Thank you to Brighton High School who yesterday provided an opportunity for our Year 1 and 2 students, 3-4I and 3-4M to attend the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra’s “Words and Music” schools’ concert. Hopefully this will be the first of many times that we can share activities between Brighton High and Brighton Primary.
Our school library has been a warm and welcoming space for students across recess and lunchtime lately. Students have really taken to coming into the library space to share a book, do some book borrowing, or to play some board games, cards or other quiet games. Thanks to our Library Tech Nicole who has been on hand to help students with book borrowing, to have a chat about a book or to talk with students about their favourite books.
Our library is also open on Thursday mornings for our Reading Room. We would love to see you join us on a Thursday morning soon to share a book with your child and see what our library shelves have to offer. What a great way to start the day!
Wednesday 21 May is National Simultaneous Story Time (NSS) across Australia. Our Kinder – Year 2 students will meet to share in a reading of this year’s NSS book The Truck Cat by Deborah Frenkel and Danny Snell. Some cats are house cats. Some are apartment cats. But Tinka is a truck cat. Tinka lives everywhere. We look forward to all K-2 students enjoying this activity.
Brighton Primary is one of 400 schools from across Australia to be selected by ACARA (the organisers of NAPLAN) to take part in a trial of questions for the Reading test and Language Conventions test. Selected students will complete two Naplan style tests to help evaluate potential NAPLAN test questions. It is not about testing the student or their ability. But the suitability of the questions. The test for selected Year 5 students will take place on Wednesday 21May. Selected Year 3 students will have their test on Thursday 22May. Letters have been sent home to families of children who have been selected to do this testing. Please contact Mrs Rollins through the School Office if you have any questions.
Just a reminder that if you are keen to come into school for parent help, to offer time to support one of our School Association fundraisers on site or to assist on excursions that you need to have completed your Volunteer Induction session. This is a short session that gives you information to support you as a volunteer at school. Please see our School Office if you wish to do a session soon.

Derwent Valley Art's - The Bridge 2025 Competition

Congratulations to Ivy Percy who received the people's choice award junior section in the Derwent Valley Art's 'The Bridge 2025' competition. Ivy spent hours after school in the art room getting guidance and tips on how to improve her work. She took this knowledge home and put it to practise. Your hard work really paid off with this beautiful masterpiece.
This term Kinder Wombats warmly welcomed Miss Hastings to our class. We have had a busy start to the term as continue to explore our letters and sounds. So far we have explored the letter S, A, T & P. Kinder Wombats have had lots of fun making a snake, an astronaut, a turtle and a pig.
Kinder Wombats also continue to enjoy their investigations time; exploring, sharing, and making friends.
