From the Principal

Dear Families,

Book Week – Come celebrate reading with us!

We are excited to be counting down to Monday and the start of our Book Week activities.  Classes will have activities in their library sessions across next week.  There will also be special activities planned by our Library Tech, Nicole.  We can’t wait to see what our library will look like on Monday!

Our Book Week Parades will be held next Wednesday, 20th August in our School Gym.  Book Week Parades always provide a fun focus on reading.  Students are invited to dress up in a costume to celebrate their favourite book or book character.    Students have already enjoyed sharing what they will come along to school as on Wednesday and we are looking forward to having a few Captain Americas, a Thing 1 and Thing 2, a Harry Potter and a Super Bear amongst many other characters in our parade.

Parade times are:

LiL- Year 2 Parade, please be seated for a start at 9.15am

Year 3-6 Parade, please be seated for a start at 10am

We ask that families leave school after the Parade by using the pathway next to our Out of School Hours Care building and Kitchen Garden.

Student Leader Update

Thanks to Brighton High for inviting our School Captains and Community Captains to visit to meet recipients of the 2025 Tasmanian Australian of the Year awards.  Our Student Leaders were excited to meet Ariarne Titmus (2025 Tas Young Australian of the Year), Sam Elsom (2025 Tas Australian of the Year) and Keren Franks (2025 Tas Local Hero).  Thanks to Bridgewater PCYC for supporting us to travel by bus.

School Fire Education Program

We are excited to have Firefighter Todd from the Tasmanian Fire Service visiting our school. He is providing our students with age-appropriate lessons focused on key fire safety messages.  Students have been learning how to get help in an emergency, the importance of having a fire safety plan and how to stay safe if there is a fire.  Fire Education lessons will continue over the next two weeks.

School Association Meeting

We didn’t have enough Committee members able to attend this week’s meeting so we have postponed and will meet again on Monday 25th August at 4pm.  The meeting will be held in the School Office block.  Come along and hear what is happening with school chaplaincy, our school learning priorities and what our Safeguarding Lead does as well as finding out about upcoming fundraising and events.    We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting.
