From the Principal

Dear Families,

It has been a busy week at Brighton Primary as classes have been welcoming families and students back from the holiday break and settling back into learning routines.  Welcome to families who have newly joined our school community this week.  Our school is pleased to have Melissa Hastings begin with us as Teacher of Kinder Wombats and Andrew Nettlefold begin as Teacher of Prep Stephenson on Fridays.

Term 2 is always full of opportunities for participation and learning.  The colder weather is always a big hint that we are closer to our school Cross Country run. This year it will be held on Friday 16th May and more information about the timetable for the day will be sent home soon.

School will be visited by the Oral Health van for two weeks from 24th of June.  Our annual Swimming and Water Safety program will be held from 23rd of June to 4th of July at Clarence Pool.  This program is for students in Years 3 to 5 and Year 6s who didn’t meet all their swimming markers last year.  Permission letters for the swimming program have been sent home with students.  We ask that families please return these to the School Office as soon as possible.

Our Values Assemblies will continue to run during Term 2.  Assemblies will be held in the School Hall starting at 9am on the following days:

21 May                3-4 classes

28 May                1-2 classes

11 June               4-5 and 6 classes

18 June               Kinder/Prep classes

We welcome families to share in these events and support all students.  Your encouragement assists them to build confidence and their understanding of school community.  A link to our school’s Respectful Volunteers and Visitors Policy is included with today’s newsletter outlining school’s expectations for families when on our school site.

Our School Association will also be organising some fundraisers this term.  Please see inside today’s newsletter for information about what’s coming up soon!

With ANZAC Day happening in the school holidays again this year, students from Prep – Year Six participated in sector assemblies this week to commemorate 110 years since the first landing of Australian and New Zealand forces at Gallipoli.  As part of these assemblies, students were provided with information about the ANZAC's and the significance of The Last Post.   Our school thanks students from our student leadership group who attended the ANZAC Day Service at Brighton last Friday.  Photos are included in this week’s newsletter.

While school has reconnected families who provided their emails to Seesaw, we are still aware that some families are having difficulty with connecting.   Please let our School Office know if you are not able to contact us, or, if you are not yet connected and would like to be.  Seesaw is our main platform for communication with home.

Thank you for your continued support of our school,

Sonya Plunkett-Smith

Principal
