From the Principal
Dear Families,
As we head into the final week of Term One, it is a good time to reflect on the many opportunities for learning and connecting that we have experienced at our school since February.
For our students, these have included:
Explicit learning routines across all classrooms with an emphasis on explicit teaching of reading
Election of our student leaders: school captains, community captains and house captains
Buddy class activities
Enrolment of interested students in Children’s University
Welcoming Kinder students and families to our school
School Photos
NAPLAN testing and progress monitoring for all students in foundational reading skills
Year 3 -4 Kitchen Garden sessions
FOGO Truck visit
Accessing our School Support Team and support facilities
Our families have had the opportunity to support their child and share information with school about their child’s wellbeing and learning through:
Launching into Learning and pre-Kinder sessions
Regular sector assemblies including Values Certificates and Golden Ticket Draws
Year 3 – 6 Athletics Carnival and SPSSA Carnivals for our Brighton A and B teams
School Association Annual General Meeting and election of our Association Committee
Volunteer Induction sessions
Participating in Care Team Meetings
Contact with their child’s teacher and Sector Head
Receiving evidence of their child’s learning through work samples sent by the classroom teacher
Receiving Progress Reports
Thank you to all families for the support you’ve given school this term through check in conversations or by meeting with us to discuss concerns or share information to help us to better meet the needs of your child. Together each of our everyday connections at school gives us the opportunity to make our school a positive learning environment. We look forward to continuing to work with you to assist your child as the year progresses.
Thanks also to our school staff for their huge input of energy, time and commitment to student wellbeing and learning across the term.
Staffing change for Term Two:
We will farewell Ms Kathleen O’Meara from our school on the final day of this term. Kathleen has taught Prep SO on Fridays this year and has had various teaching roles at our school over the last few years. We congratulate Kathleen on gaining a new position for next term.
Prep SO move back to their usual room
Thank you to families for your patience and understanding while repairs were being made to Prep SO’s classroom during this term. With new flooring now completed, carpet laid and new heating in place, the class has now moved back to their original room – just in time for the colder weather.
School Association Easter Raffle
Our Brighton families are always generous when it comes to fundraising at school and we so appreciate the donations of Easter Eggs that have come into school on our recent Free Dress Days. Our School Association is working to make up our Easter Raffle Prize packs and are looking forward to drawing their Easter Raffle next week. A reminder that all raffle books need to be returned to our school office by 9am on Wednesday 9th April, the raffle will be drawn at 12pm on the same day.
Progress Reports
Students from Kinder to Year Six had their Term 1 Progress Reports sent home last week. Please contact our School Office if you did not receive a copy of the report.
ANZAC DAY Service – Brighton Community
ANZAC Day again falls in the school holidays this year. Our school will be represented at Brighton’s ANZAC SERVICE by student leaders. The service will start at 11am on Friday 25th April at the Remembrance Park, 1 Menin Drive, Brighton.
School Canteen
The operators of our school canteen Sam and Emily have decided to end their time with us. They will be leaving on Friday 11th April. The Canteen staff would like to thank the school community for supporting them over the last five years.
Brighton Primary School would like to thank Sam and Emily for the tireless work they have given to running our school canteen, ensuring there have been many happy tummies each day!
Our canteen will be operating next term under new management. Next week we will send home an updated canteen menu and information about how to access QKR app.
End of Term 1
Term One will finish next Friday, 11 April. We hope that families can enjoy some time together over the holiday break and during Easter and we look forward to seeing you back at school on Monday 28 April.
Working with you for a positive school community,
