Dear Families,
Thank you to families for attending our recent parent teacher learning conversations. Families play such an essential role in nurturing their child’s learning and development and it is great to have conversations connecting home and school when setting your child’s learning goals. Encouraging a love of learning at home and being actively involved in your child’s learning at school can have such a positive impact on their progress. We appreciate you taking the time to come in and share a conversation with your child’s teacher to support their going classroom learning.
If you have been unable to come in and have a conversation as yet, please contact our school office or your child’s teacher to make an appointment. Students in Mr Gunn’s class will have parent teacher conversations in Week 2 of Term 3. Please book an appointment through our school office.
Next term we will be having an open afternoon for families to come into their child’s classroom and have a conversation about learning progress with their child’s teacher or specialist teachers. This will be held on Tuesday 9 September.
NAIDOC Week Activities
NAIDOC Week is held in the first week of July in Australia. NAIDOC Week provides an opportunity for us to learn about First Nations cultures, histories and achievements and to celebrate together.
Our Aboriginal Education Worker, Kristie, will next week support all classes across school to take part in a NAIDOC Week activity either in their classroom or in our Kitchen Garden space. Activities will be hands-on and sessions will also support students to understand what NAIDOC Week is and its importance for all of us. We look forward to sharing photos from these activities in our next newsletter
High School Intentions
Students in Year 6 recently brought home a High School Intentions form to nominate which high school they will be seeking to attend in 2026. Parents are asked to please return this form as soon as possible to our school office.
Brighton Primary is a feeder school for Brighton High and we have already started to link together to shape transition activities to support students in the move from Year 6 to Year 7.
Pre-Service Teachers
Our school has been fortunate to have pre-service teachers working and learning alongside our teaching staff over the last half of this term. Being in the classroom and supporting everyday learning is a vital way for UTAS Teaching students to gain further knowledge and skills for their future employment. Best wishes for all that lies ahead in your career journey.
Swimming and Water Safety Program
Students have participated enthusiastically in the first week of our swimming program. Despite the cold weather this week, they have been keen to board the bus and head to the program. The program continues at the Clarence Aquatic Centre next week and finishes on the last day of term. Students have appreciated the opportunity to have free swimming lessons and to further develop their water awareness skills.
Sharing some dates for next term….
Term 3 begins on Monday 21 July and will finish on Friday 26 September. Term 3 is always a busy time and includes celebration of National Science Week (from 9 – 17 August) and Book Week (from 18– 23 August). The theme for Book Week is ‘Book an Adventure!’ It will be the 80th anniversary of Children’s Book Week in Australia and we are very keen to celebrate this occasion.
Thank you to all families for your support of school and our staff across this term.
