Dear Families,
The beginning of Term One has been very busy as staff have focussed on developing positive relationships with students, and, supporting students to understand classroom expectations and to settle quickly into morning routines. Classes have also had their first lessons for the year with our specialist teachers, participating in a range of lessons across areas including Music, Art, Health and Physical Education. Our 24 Carrot Kitchen Garden program also started this week, with students from our Year 3-4 classes enjoying experiences in the school kitchen and garden areas.
This week saw our Kinders have their first consecutive three days at school and the start of our Launching into Learning sessions. Thanks to our Kinder and LIL families who have shown such great support for their child by bringing them into school, checking in with staff and following up on how their child’s time at school has been. Our school has a strong focus on early learning and we look forward to our early years families continuing to be in and around school to support their child.
Many of our teaching staff have attended professional learning this week – gaining further knowledge of explicit teaching of reading. Reading is a school priority and we are strongly committed, within our Department’s Lifting Literacy policy. to providing all students with the foundational reading skills they need for life.
Invitation to all our Families – Catch Up and Check In BBQ next Tuesday, 25th February
All our families are invited to come in to school next Tuesday afternoon between 3 and 4pm to see their child’s classroom, meet their teacher and enjoy a BBQ. Classrooms will be open from 3 – 3.20pm and the BBQ will be provided in the school courtyard. If you haven’t let our School Office know you are coming along, please let them know as soon as possible so that we can organise catering. Information will be available about Launching into Learning, about support provided by our Aboriginal Education Worker and our School Support Team, and our School Association. We look forward to seeing you between 3 – 4pm next Tuesday.
Seesaw APP
Your child’s teacher will regularly connect with you through the Seesaw APP. School uses this APP to share information and examples of your child’s learning with you. It can also include reminders about excursions or class events. Many families will already be used to receiving Seesaw messages from school.
Please know that there has been a technical issue with Seesaw and this has meant that there has been some errors with connecting families to their child. As a precautionary measure to support the maintenance of student privacy a decision has been made to disconnect all families from Seesaw whilst work is being undertaken to resolve the issue. Student privacy is a priority which is why we are being cautious in relation to this issue. We are hoping to provide an update soon so that you can access Seesaw again. In the meantime, please contact staff through the School Office.
School Captains
Congratulations to Sky and Mitchell from Year 6 who have been elected as Brighton Primary’s School Captains for 2025. They will have many opportunities to show and develop their leadership skills this year through working with other students, assisting with school events and representing our school in the community. They seem very eager for the opportunities and challenges that await them in their new role.
Many students from Year 6 prepared and delivered speeches seeking to gain the school captaincy position. Well done to all students who took part in this process for showing the responsibility and courage to step up and seek a leadership role.

Brighton Primary School Respectful School Volunteer and Visitor Policy
Volunteers and visitors to our school make a valuable contribution to student learning and wellbeing. Collaboration between school staff, students, volunteers and visitors helps school to be a positive environment in which students can grow and learn. By enrolling a child in our school, parents and carers are expected to work in partnership with the school to model respectful behaviour and speak and act within our school values. Respectful adult behaviour supports student learning and maintains a safe school environment. We ask that if you have any concerns about the behaviour of other children or issues that occur for your child at school that you discuss this with your child’s teacher or Sector Head and not approach students.
A reminder that Sector Heads for 2025 are:
Kinder and Prep | Alison Norris |
Years 1 – 2 | Belinda Harback |
Years 3 – 4 | Dorothy Raymond |
4/5 and 6 classes | Ben Slade |
Validation Forms and Medical Action Plans
It is vitally important that school has current contact and medical information for your child. Validation Forms are sent home each year to be completed with up-to-date information about emergency contacts, address, medications and health conditions and to provide permission for excursions and publishing of your child’s image or learning tasks. Please return these forms as soon as possible to the School Office. If your child has asthma, anaphylaxis or other medical condition please provide a copy of their medical action plan to the School Office.
